Having set out from Zamora, the Spanish city from which their surname derives, following the expulsion of 1492 by the Catholic Monarchs Ferdinand of Aragon and Isabella of Castile, the Zamorans arrive in Italy - specifically in Ferrara - where they find a tolerant environment that allows them to prosper and expand.
