BRUNDIBAR from Hans Krása
With soloists from the TCBO Youth Choir and the TCBO Children's Choir
Duration 45 minutes, free admission

The term 'brundibar' comes from Czechoslovak slang, and is used to define bumblebee. Hans Krása, a Czech composer of
Jewish origin, wrote this children's opera to a libretto by Adolf Hoffmeister for a performance in the Theresienstadt Concentration Camp (in occupied Czechoslovakia) on 23 September 1943. The German jailers did not imagined that the story of Brundibar was a veiled but fierce criticism of the abuses perpetrated by Hitler's dictatorship against the Jewish people.
Hitler's dictatorship against the Jewish people, indeed they themselves included some footage of it in a propaganda documentary produced to demonstrate the high quality of life in the concentration camps.

A new feature of the project for 2023 is the involvement of all schools in the metropolitan area, to which the dress rehearsal on 27 January will be completely dedicated.
The performance will be introduced by the institutional greetings of Matteo Lepore, Mayor of Bologna, Daniele De Paz, President of the Jewish Community of Bologna, and Fulvio Macciardi, Superintendent of the Municipal Theatre of Bologna.
