In January 2017, a new Small Temple has been inaugurated in the same building of the present Jewish Community, over a Roman bath dated back to the Imperial period.

Records show that the first Jewish prayer oratory in Bologna to be founded after the expulsion of the Jews from the Papal States, dates back to 1839.
Sergio Joséf Sierra.
Chief Rabbi of the JewishCommunity of Bologna from 1948 to 1959
I was the first rabbi to work in Bologna after the war, from 1948 to the end of 1959. Everything had been destroyed. What remained of the temple was just a heap of rubble. The Community building was more or less in ruins and had no electricity or gas whatsoever. But the worst thing was the sad feeling caused by the emptiness we felt for those who had been deported. There was also a widespread sense of confusion.
Our magnificent Czech Torah Scroll MST#823 originates from the Bohemian town of Slany about 30km north of Prague. This Sefer Torah is one of 1564 which constituted part of the treasures from the Jewish communities of Bohemia and Moravia that miraculously survived the Shoah in Prague.
