The MEZUZAH now consists of a small piece of parchment containing the first two passages of the Shema, which affirm the unity of God, the obligation to study and teach the Torah to one's children, and therefore the obligation to affix the Mezuzah.
The parchment is then rolled up and placed inside a case to be affixed to the doorposts of the house. It must then be placed on the right-hand side for those entering and on the left-hand side for those leaving the doorway.
