The Jewish Community of Bologna invites the students of the Galvani high school to attend the testimony of Niko Kamp, a survivor of the Shoah, who will recount the story of his escape together with his older brother and the painful experience of his mother, who instead was interned at Auschwitz and returned home. The General Manager of the Banca di Bologna Enzo Mengoli will bring greetings to the students. The testimony will be introduced by the President of the Jewish Community of Bologna Daniele De Paz and by the President of the City Council of Bologna Simona Lembi.
‘The memories of Inge, deported to Auschwitz together with Anne Frank, and of her children who lived in hiding in Nazi-occupied Holland.
Inge Meyer Kamp, a German Jew, recalls in these pages her odyssey that began in the aftermath of Kristallnacht on 10 November 1938.
It was then that she, her husband, her parents-in-law and her two children decided to take refuge in Holland. Here the Kamps lived quite peacefully until the German occupation and the consequent introduction of the anti-Jewish laws, which eventually forced them to separate and go into hiding: the children in one place, Inge and her husband in another, and the elderly Kamps in yet another.
Inge and her husband were the first to be discovered and to end up in Westerbork, the anteroom to Auschwitz.
And it was precisely for Auschwitz that Inge and her husband departed on 3 September 1944 locked in a cattle wagon together with Anne Frank and her family.
