The Community’s website now has a new service: the list of kosher products approved by the Italian Rabbinical Assembly, easy to use on a phone, with a photo of each pack so you can spot the products on the shelf.
What you can do
- Search for a product or a brand: the list narrows down as you type.
- Browse the categories: drinks, pasta, oil, sweets, frozen food and every other section of the list.
- Scan the barcode with your phone’s camera: the page tells you whether the product is on the list and what to look out for – the symbol that must appear on the pack, the batch, the factory.
The list includes 1,471 products, 687 of them with a photo. The camera image stays on your phone: it is not recorded or sent anywhere.
Where the data comes from
The list is the “Approved products 5786-2026” published by the Italian Rabbinical Assembly (ARI) and UCEI, whom we thank for allowing us to publish it. Photos and barcodes come from Open Food Facts, the free food products database, and were matched to the products one by one by the Community.
As the list itself points out, it is for private use and does not replace the opinion of the local Rabbinate; when in doubt, the original text prevails – it can be downloaded from the page (in Italian).
As far as we know, it is the first service of its kind in Italy. Reports and corrections are welcome: get in touch.
