Following an initial phase of restoration work carried out in 2007, a second phase is currently being planned (March 2008).
Developing a strategy to enhance the Jewish cemetery of Bologna means not only preventing its gradual deterioration, but also promoting it as a cultural asset accessible to all. By promoting the history and memory of this place, it will be possible once again to hear the story of the Jewish community of Bologna, in a close and original intertwining of architecture, sculpture, nature, and public and private memories.
The redevelopment project for the Jewish Cemetery features the following key areas:
1. Redevelopment and conservative restoration of the boundary walls
2. Restoration and maintenance of family chapels
3. Conservative restoration of headstones and tombs
4. Routine maintenance of the small prayer hall for funeral services
5. Redevelopment of the new cemetery entrance
6. New landscaping arrangements for the modern section
