The Ministry for Cultural Heritage and Activities following Law 175 of 2005 has allocated funding to the Jewish Community of Bologna for the restoration of the Cemetery. The appointed designer is Arch. Daniele De Paz, the design team consists of Arch. Camilla Bottino and Arch. Andrea Morpurgo; while Eng. Lucio Pardo, Arch. Gianpaolo Mazzucato and Eng. David Menasci collaborated on the preliminary phase.
The restoration work on the cemetery (phase 1) was carried out from 11 April to 20 November 2007.
The project involved the restoration of 89 tombstones, the most interesting ones from a historical and artistic point of view. For these headstones, an analysis of their state of conservation was carried out, involving the restoration of missing parts, the repositioning of fallen ones and the restoration of ornaments. A general cleaning was also carried out on all the tombs, which made it possible to restore an overall image of "recovery" across the three sections.
